NZTech Update – 100 days, Techweek is coming and Kathmandu (not the shop!)

Hi Readers

During the Christmas holidays, it sounded like a great idea when a group of my friends all decided to do a run, for at least 10 minutes, every day for 100 days. How hard can it be, I thought? 10 minutes is just a jaunt down the road to the dairy and back. The funny thing about committing out loud to a bunch of people and tracking our daily progress, is that even though it is hard to keep it up, it is still exhilarating. So, tomorrow morning I need to complete run number 44 at 5am so I can fit it in before the NZTech Government and Technology Summit. Crazy, I know.

Committing to the 100 days running challenge, is a bit like Techweek. Six months ago, when we announced that Techweek was going national, we knew it would be a great challenge. So here we are, only days away from going live, with hundreds of events across towns and cities throughout New Zealand. Remember, if you have an event you think could run in Techweek don’t leave it too late! It is already gearing up to be an amazing week to be celebrated throughout the country.

Tomorrow, I fly to Kathmandu for the three day Board Meeting for the World Information Technology and Services Alliance, the global umbrella body for national tech industry groups. As a Director of WITSA, we will be focusing on developing policy on shared concerns such as trade in services, women in tech, protecting intellectual property and skills gaps. I am also hoping this role will help me expose cool NZ tech to the world. Meanwhile, I haven’t quite worked out how I am going to do run number 45 while I am in transit. Maybe I can run through Singapore airport in between flights, any other innovative ideas, greatly appreciated!

Have a great week.
All the best
Graeme
