Techweek’17 in review with NZTech Chair Mitchell Pham

Techweek ’17 has wrapped up after nine days and nearly 300 individual events around the country, and our sights are already set on Techweek’18!

With such a wide variety of events there was something engaging for everyone, from Blockchain and cryptocurrencies, to augmented and virtual reality, artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and the Internet of Things (IoT), to name just a few.

A highlight of the week was the NZ Hi-Tech Awards honouring locally grown talent with awards for innovation, agritech, mobile, software, hardware, startups, emerging businesses and young achievers. I would like to congratulate all the 2017 winners on their accomplishments. A special mention to Frances Valintine who was inducted into the NZ Hi-Tech Hall of Fame.  Acknowledging the strength of our tech sector at the awards dinner was a fitting end to a weeklong celebration of everything tech.

As our CEO Graeme Muller reported, Techweek’17 certainly delivered its promised festival of technology to New Zealand.  A resounding success, with more than 20,000 people through the doors of Techweek events throughout New Zealand.

We have numerous people to thank for their dedication in realising Techweek’17, especially our National Director, Jennifer Clamp.  A big thank you to our partners and sponsors too, without them, Techweek simply could not have happened.  Techweek ’17 was run by NZTech in association with Auckland’s Tourism, Events and Economic Development agency (ATEED), Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment (MBIE), Ministry of Education and New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE).

On behalf of the Board, I would also like to extend special thanks to our CEO Graeme Muller who works behind the scenes and executes NZTech’s vision of a prosperous New Zealand underpinned by technology.

The NZTech Board is eager to build on this year’s success and ensure Techweek’18 is even bigger and better!  The reason for this is simple, because the tech sector is playing an increasing role in New Zealand’s economy and our daily lives.

Regards,

Mitchell Pham
NZTech Chair
