NZTech Update – Fuelling the future with AI!

Hi Readers

Last Thursday, on International Women’s Day, I joined the TechWomen lunch in Auckland.  Simultaneously, TechWomen hosted events in Wellington and Christchurch.  More than 250 people joined in on the discussions.  The inspirational speakers at each event also shared their stories of how they have made diversity count.

Meanwhile, emerging technologies like AI are creating a window of opportunity for women in tech.  A recent global research project has found 22,000 AI specialists in the world but only 85 here in New Zealand.  NZTech and the AI Forum will be looking at how to ensure that as we develop local AI talent, we bring as many women, as men along on the journey.  If you aren’t already booked to attend, check out the AI-Day event.

This week, I am looking forward to the National Science Challenge Technology Leaders’ Mission Lab.   It’s a full day workshop of technology thought leaders considering the future direction of New Zealand’s hi-tech sector.  This workshop will help inform the future focus and investment of the National Science Challenge Science for Technological Innovation.

Later this week, we get down to business with another member of the Tech Alliance, the NZGDA, to look at building a deeper understanding of the New Zealand Game Developers sector.

Have a great week
All the best

Graeme Muller
