Taking stock of workplace wellbeing

Kia Ora,

After a marathon week of more than 40 hours of Zoom and Team calls, I’ve learnt a very important lesson. I don’t recommend allowing your calendar to fill up entirely with video calls! It is certainly not good for anyone’s wellbeing, because we are more productive with shorter online sessions and plenty of breaks.

It can be challenging to know where to start when it comes to supporting your team’s wellbeing. More than a quarter (27.2%) of the small business workforce is trying to manage the negative impact 2020 has had on their mental wellbeing. It’s absolutely crucial we address it and make a long term commitment to workplace wellbeing. Fortunately, Xero have created a tool, The Check-In, giving small business leaders simple ideas on how to introduce wellbeing into the workplace. It includes fostering connections within your team, supporting others to look after themselves and making it okay to ask for help.

We know these are difficult times for businesses, so it was great to celebrate success at the Hi-Tech Awards two weeks ago. If you missed the results, here are the 2020 winners. There is another excellent opportunity to celebrate in October with the Amcham-DHL Express Success and Resilience Awards. These awards celebrate the success and innovation in business relationships with the United States of America (USA). Applications close on 11 September, so don’t miss out.

Our work facilitating success of the tech sector continues. In case you missed it, here’s the update on the Digital Technology Industry Transformation Plan (ITP). The digital tech ITP includes seven workstreams that are looking for participants; AI, data, government, export, Māori tech success, skills and the Tech Story. If you would like to be involved in one of these workstreams, please register your interest here.

Ngā mihi
