NZTech Inform – let’s all choose to challenge!

Today is International Women’s Day (IWD) and TechWomen are celebrating at events in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and online.
This year’s IWD campaign theme is #ChooseToChallenge.  Individually, we’re all responsible for our own thoughts and actions, so we can all choose to call out gender bias and inequality to help create an inclusive world.  As the father of a young woman who is on her journey through the education system, I am inspired to do what I can to help create a more inclusive workforce for her.
We know this is especially important in the tech sector, where only 27 percent of our tech workforce are women.  As the demand for digital skills continues to increase, we need to ensure female students are interested in pursuing tech careers and we need to help women stay in tech careers.  This provides a unique opportunity to join New Zealand’s fastest growing and highest paid sector.
Today especially, consider what you can do to help create a gender equal world? How can you challenge gender stereotypes?  How can you personally raise awareness against gender bias?  Let’s champion the girls and women we know who are innovating with technology.  Let’s make sure the work environments we go to everyday support and encourage them.

From challenge comes change, so let’s all choose to challenge!
