If, like me, you live in Auckland, then you will have just experienced another Alert Level 3 lockdown.  Regardless of region, these unwelcome times impact us all and it is with a sense of frustration that we announce the Locate21 conference will no longer take place in person in Wellington.  Instead, the conference will exist virtually and attendees will be able to experience an exciting mix of speakers from across Australasia.  Remember, LocationTech members can access a discount on conference rates, making the conference a definite must for location technology professionals.  More details about the conference, including how to register can be found here.

Although I have worked in the Location Technology industry for over 25 years, my passion for the topic hasn’t diminished.  However, last week I was reminded that the future of the industry will be in expert hands.  Geospatial Media and Communications has published its 50 Rising Stars highlighting the outstanding accomplishments of young individuals who are proactive and passionate about the value of geospatial technology.  Congratulations to New Zealand’s Callum Smith from EY and Lindsay Chan from the Department of Conservation.

Last month, we announced two new members and we are pleased to now announce another.  The Christchurch based Location Data Intelligence company, Orbica has joined LocationTech, expanding its NZTech membership.  This is a wonderful reminder that NZTech members can join our community for very little additional cost.

Last month, we introduced the concept of Industry Technology Plans.
