During the last few months the LocationTech executive council has been seeking new council members and we have appreciated your responses. We are pleased to announce that Dr Leo Browning from Qrious joins us. In addition, Manu King, who was previously on the SIBA committee will rejoin us, replacing departing long term member Harley Prowse.
 
In other LocationTech news, we are recruiting an executive to support our council. Currently, LocationTech is run by volunteers and we recognise that to achieve our aims we require dedicated resources focussed solely on expanding the reach of LocationTech. This is the first time we have taken this approach and the decision reflects LocationTech’s maturity and how we want to work for our members.
 
We are also excited to announce that Qrious has joined the LocationTech family. Qrious have long recognised the importance of Location Technology and their membership and executive council involvement is appreciated.
 
Since joining NZTech, we have seen the very real value that NZTech provides and it is with a sense of pride that we can highlight NZTech as Finalists in the New Zealand 2021 Hi-Tech awards for the Best Contribution to the New Zealand Tech Sector category. We wish our NZTech colleagues all the best for the Awards Gala Dinner on 28 May in Auckland. We know NZTech have certainly made a substantial difference to LocationTech!
 
We would also like to congratulate The NZ Esri User Group on organising this years’ Regional User Conferences (RUCs). This month, we also acknowledge Geoawesomeness.com, a well known source of geospatial news, celebrating its tenth birthday! Read more.
 
Last week, the Techweek2021 event programme was launched. Techweek is a nationwide series of events, showcasing and celebrating New Zealand innovation. There are plenty of events to choose from and more are being added regularly, so remember to keep checking back. The annual festival runs 22-30 May and LocationTech will be part of Techweek TV’s programming.
 
Finally, we offer our heartfelt condolences to the Eagle family after the passing of chair and co-founder Corallie Eagle. Without Corallie and Trevor Eagle, who established Eagle Technologies in 1969, the Location Technology community in New Zealand would not be in the strong position that it is today.
