It’s Techweek!

It’s Techweek22 and at last count, there’s 414 sessions to choose from!  Techweek runs until Sunday 22 May, so it’s not too late to register to attend events. Plus, tune into TechweekTV live daily from 9am.

Yesterday, I was delighted to attend Hon Dr Clark’s media conference announcing a $20 million investment in the tech sector’s growth. The investment is targeted at activities that have been identified as having the biggest impact fast.  It supports initiatives to help accelerate the growth of Kiwi SaaS businesses, such as a tech academy that will help create multiple new job opportunities for Kiwis. The funding will also support our Tech Story, We See Tomorrow First, developed in partnership between NZTech and government to help reposition New Zealand as a successful hi-tech nation to help our tech exporters overseas, attract the best global talent and investment.

This week, the AI Forum celebrates the launch of their latest research report, AI for the Environment in Aotearoa New Zealand. The report discusses how environmental AI can process big data and provide near real time information and more accurate predictions to support sustainability decisions. If you would like to learn more about how AI can be used as a tool for environmental outcomes, tune into TechweekTV on Wednesday 18 May 1.40-2.40pm for the launch event.

We know there is a tech job to suit everyone and want to show Year 11-13 learners there’s more to working in tech than just coding! As the demand for digital skills remains high, we need to ensure learners are supported in pursuing tech careers.  So we’re proud to announce the Tech22 Tour this June.

We’re connecting ākonga (learners) and the tech sector – navigating through our digital future.  Tech22 is a guided tour of the Wynyard Quarter Innovation Precinct to visit leading tech companies and explore tech careers. The Tech22 Tour is a collaborative partnership presented by Auckland Unlimited, Media Design School, Ministry of Education, NZTech and the Wynyard Innovation Neighbourhood.
