Tēnā tātou katoa,
ChatGPT is proving to be the iPhone moment for AI (thanks to Ming Cheuk for your excellent metaphor), with a good number of our members appearing in the news talking about the opportunities it has unleashed across a wide variety of applications, including: ElementX, Spark, Arcanum AI, Aware Group, Frankly AI, Ambit AI and University of Auckland.
Get involved
We have a white paper on Large Language Models in the works led by Matthew Ensor, CEO of Frankly AI. Contact us to get involved.
Come and see
We are also partnering with CanterburyTech and Cognizant New Zealand to bring you an in-person Tech Tuesday event ‘ChatGPT – is the future finally here?’ in Christchurch on 14 March. This is a follow up to our hugely successful 22 February webinar on ChatGPT’s impact on education, which attracted well over 600 registrations.
Get involved: Leadership and practical tools to support the Responsible Governance of AI for Aotearoa
We have set up a new AI Governance Working Group to produce practical tools for organisations and their leaders, with the aim of producing a curated set of frameworks, tools and approaches that meet the needs of organisations operating in New Zealand. If you are interested in getting involved and potentially leading some of that work, get in touch.
AI for the Environment – Wellington Event – Postponed
Our intended celebration of our work on AI for the Environment was cancelled on 15 February as Cyclone Gabrielle raged across Aotearoa. We send our heartfelt love to all those impacted by the recent weather events and especially to those who lost loved ones. We expect to have a new date shortly.
Ngā mihi mahana
