NZTech Inform – Congratulations!

Kia ora,

Congratulations to this year’s New Zealand Hi-Tech Awards who were announced at the Gala Dinner in Christchurch. A record crowd of over 1,000 attended, including the Prime Minister. Cin7 was the big winner claiming the PwC NZ Hi-Tech Company of the Year category. The other big winners were Dawn Aerospace who won both the Hardware and Emerging Company categories and Formus Labs taking out the Software and Deep Tech categories. Check out all the winners here.

The awards celebrate New Zealand’s most successful high-tech companies and highest achieving individuals. However, the highlight of the evening for me was the visible energy and excitement in the room about the future of our tech sector.

I’d also like to acknowledge the many people who work behind the scenes and contribute to our sector’s success including educators, government agencies, investors, support firms, associations and more. Thank you for your ongoing drive and commitment to the tech sector – you all deserve an award!

This week, work continues on both our Digital Skills Aotearoa report and Climate Technology Roadmap research. Thank you to those who responded to our recent climate tech survey. We received an overwhelming response and your insights have enabled us to identify further focus areas.

Tomorrow, I am briefing the CEO of the Ministry of Education on the insights from the pre-published Digital Skills Aotearoa report. Next week, I will present the highlights and key recommendations to Minister Andersen. My main takeaway? We’re aware of the challenges and many organisations have made substantial efforts to address them, but the statistics haven’t changed! It’s now time to move beyond a fragmented approach and find a collaborative and coordinated way forward. Standby for more detail, insights and recommendations in the coming weeks when the 3rd edition of our report is published.

Ngā mihi nui

Graeme Muller
