Supporting long term growth

Kia ora,

Last week, along with about 400 others I attended the FinTechNZ Hui Taumata. It was a powerful gathering of innovative minds and I learnt a lot about the rapidly growing fintech sector.

Tomorrow, I am in Wellington visiting the Beehive to discuss the role of technology in emissions reduction and boosting the tech sector. I’m looking forward to catching up with Minister Collins, our first Minister for Technology, to reinforce the need to maintain focus on the enablers of the sector to support long term growth. It doesn’t matter whether it is spacetech, game development, SaaS or biotech, we need to keep an eye on the skills pipeline, the incubation ecosystem and commercialisation processes (to name a few enablers). I’m also meeting with Minister Watts about the soon to be published framework for a climate technology roadmap and the importance of tech to support emissions reduction.

At the end of the week, I’m looking forward to our 10th tenth annual New Zealand Cyber Security Summit where we strive to make New Zealand and their businesses safe from scams and attacks. There’s still some tickets left, so if you want to hear the latest trends and share knowledge, join me in Wellington on Thursday and Friday.

Meanwhile, the latest podcast in our See Tomorrow First series features David Leach of Cin7. Last year, Cin7 won Company of the Year at the NZ Hi-Tech Awards for their global success with their world-leading, inventory management platform that handles around $40 billion in transactions each year. Tune in to hear their story and then listen to other podcasts in this inspiring series.

Ngā mihi
