Connect, grow and succeed

A recently released study has further reinforced the challenges faced by women in tech roles. Our industry remains challenged in attracting more women into tech, ensuring supportive working environments and empowering them in management roles. For many years the NZTech TechWomen community has been leading the charge toward a more equitable sector. Hundreds of members of NZTech working together to help drive positive change.

Progress is slow, but at the turn of the century it was estimated that only 20% of the tech workforce were female. By 2017 this improved to 27% of the workforce, and our 2022 survey has seen a further improvement to 29%.

One of the flagship initiatives of the TechWomen community is the annual ShadowTech day, which returns for 2024. This initiative offers girls in years 9-11 an opportunity to discover the world of tech, spark their curiosity and explore career pathways.

What exactly is ShadowTech and how does it work? Find out more during our free webinar on 20 May. Join TechWomen’s Yvonne Gill and gain insights in the ShadowTech Day programme. Discover how schools and businesses can participate. Hear first hand experiences from students, teachers and tech firms. This is an opportunity to learn how you can play a pivotal role in shaping the future of women in tech. Register for the webinar here.

We are now accepting ShadowTech registrations for both host organisations and schools. Please help us promote ShadowTech Day directly to schools in your area. If you or your team know children attending secondary school, please share this information for their digital tech teacher or careers advisor. We also have flyers and posters ready for schools to print or share. View here.

Applications are also open for our TechWomen Mentoring Circles. We’re facilitating small groups of mentors and mentees to meet regularly to discuss professional aspirations and challenges. Mentoring Circles provide a safe and supportive environment for peers to have valuable discussions with their peers and mentors. Find out more and register your interest here

Special thanks to our TechWomen team who develop and host these initiatives. If you’re not already involved please join TechWomen – if you’re a NZTech member it’s free for your team.

This includes the NZTech Group of tech associations –  AgriTechNZ, AI Forum, BlockchainNZ, BioTechNZ, Digital Identity NZ, EdTechNZ, FinTechNZ, InsurTechNZ, IoTAlliance, LocationTechNZ, NZTech, RegTechNZ and WealthTechNZ.
