Kia ora,
Today, we’re delighted to announce the publication of our AI Blueprint for Aotearoa New Zealand. Special thanks to our dedicated working group, our Executive Council and Workshop contributors.
Both the Executive Council and workshop participants challenged us to set a new ambitious goal backed by measures:
In 2030, Aotearoa New Zealand is a world-leading hub for responsible AI innovation and is globally recognised for harnessing the power of AI to enable a prosperous, inclusive and equitable future.
We focused on the six key sectors of agriculture, architecture engineering and construction (AEC), creative industries, education, environment and health. These sectors are not intended to be exclusive, but are crucial for Aotearoa’s long term economic success and will benefit from greater AI adoption.
Frameworks for each sector outline the activities for the next 12 months necessary to achieve their five year goals. Key objectives include building public trust and knowledge, active AI adoption, sustainable infrastructure, cultural integration and research and investment.
Importantly, our blueprint is a call to action for all stakeholders to collaborate and build a future where Aotearoa leads the world.

Prepare for the EU AI Act
In other news, if you’re considering developing, deploying or using an AI system in the European Union (EU), you need to be aware of the AI Act’s requirements and understand how it applies to you. Learn more.
Next month!
Our AI Hackathon is nearly here! Our four day festival features 48 hour hackathons across multiple locations, with more being added each week. It’s not too late to register. Plus, if you’re attending our Aotearoa AI Summit on 11 September in Auckland, you’ll get to meet the finalists and hear their pitches.
In August, we’ll also publish the result of our survey on AI’s impact on productivity in Aotearoa New Zealand. I’ve had an early preview and it’s an insightful read!
Ngā mihi
