Accelerating Aotearoa’s path to net zero

Kia ora,

Last week, I joined a meeting where government officials raised questions about the potential impact of data centres – an important topic, but one that often sees more opinions than facts. Reliable data is hard to come by. However, a recent report on the Australian data centre market offers some useful insights. Australian businesses would use 67% more power a year if they weren’t using energy efficient data centres. To put this in perspective, data centres consume about one percent of Australia’s electricity compared to 14 percent for metal manufacturing. Perhaps it’s time to develop a comprehensive analysis and forecast for Aotearoa New Zealand’s data centres to help drive informed, sustainable decisions for our future.

If you are passionate about a sustainable future you won’t want to miss our special member event on Thursday in Auckland. We’re exploring how technology can accelerate Aoteraoa’s emissions reduction goals. Alongside Deloitte’s Rikki Stancich and NZTech’s Sustainability sub board Co-Chair, Mark Thomas we’ll discuss actionable strategies for a greener future.

We’ll also share the latest tech sector metrics, so don’t miss this opportunity to connect in person! It’s free for members, but please register here.
