International Women’s Day 2025 Celebration – A Success!

We recently celebrated International Women’s Day with our “Micro Changes for Macro Impact” event on 5 March. This thought-provoking panel discussion brought together industry leaders both in-person and online to explore how small, intentional actions can drive significant transformation in the tech industry.

Our exceptional speakers included Melonie Cole (Founder, Mindshift), who emphasised the importance of adapting plans when needed; Sarah Elsie Baker (Head of Research, Media Design School), who championed the “quiet revolution” of consistent small actions; and Loren Shand (GM Design & Channels, Health NZ), who shared insights on how treating people with respect regardless of job titles creates psychological safety.

The key message resonated clearly: small actions, when consistent, compound into powerful change. Special thanks to Binance New ZealandMedia Design SchoolCyberCX, and facilitator Sasha Mullins for making this inspiring event possible.

Navigating the NZ Tech Job Market in 2025

Following New Zealand’s economic challenges in 2024, we asked three leading recruitment experts at Absolute ITBrightSpark Recruitment, and INSIDE Recruitment to share their perspectives on key trends in the tech job market for 2025 and how to seek advice on how best to navigate it.

Some key insights include:

  • Market Recovery: Signs of improvement in Q1 2025 with delayed projects starting to kick off again.
  • Growing Demand: AI, cybersecurity, cloud, and data skills continue to be the most sought-after in the market. Our experts predict increased hiring as the year progresses.
  • Talent Movement: Concerns about the “brain drain” are valid, with many professionals considering overseas opportunities. Our experts provide practical strategies for both job seekers and employers.
  • Networking Crucial: Many opportunities never reach job boards; personal connections and strategic networking remain vital plus maintaining a strong digital presence on LinkedIn.
  • Continuous Learning: Upskilling and micro-credentials are essential for staying competitive.
  • Diversity Progress: Organisations are implementing structured hiring processes and inclusive practices, though challenges remain.
