Welcome to our May newsletter!
It is interesting to see momentum and groundswell building around AI. Suddenly organisations big and small are focused on using data for better decision making and operational efficiencies. It certainly feels like an inflection point where AI and IoT are converging, as IoT feeds the data and real time information from the physical world to models and analysis that is driven by AI algorithms.
In working with councils, transport agencies, and overall infrastructure programmes, I see massive opportunities for implementing IoT for smarter city infrastructure, smarter utilities infrastructure, smarter transport systems, smarter budgeting, and more efficient planning. Chorus and the IoT Alliance released this informative White Paper that provides in-depth information to these use cases.
It is so exciting, and we are just at the beginning of the curve for what is possible, with smarter sensing technology and efficiently managed IoT environmental monitoring and planning.
The IoT Alliance is engaged in multi-faceted aspects of this diverse ecosystem from device manufacturing and development to software and APIs, to data visibility and AI integration, to legal and commercial questions around safety and risk management.

Navigating IoT: Legal Insights and Networking Event
Thank you to everyone who attended our Auckland event during Techweek25: ‘Navigating IoT: Legal Insights and Networking’. We enjoyed an excellent presentation and discussion on the legal considerations around the convergence of AI and IoT, and the associated cybersecurity risks, led by Executive Council member and Hudson Gavin Martin Partner, Edwin Lim.
Key takeaways and IoT areas that we need to continuously monitor and consider:
