Visit Tech AllianceKia ora,
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is moving from hype to real impact in Aotearoa. From automating routine processes to enhancing decision-making, AI is now embedded in our everyday work.
Last week, the AI Forum published its latest research results: AI in Action: Exploring the Impact of Artificial Intelligence on New Zealand’s Productivity. The momentum is gaining and our latest report reveals:
✅ 91% of organisations report efficiency gains from AI
✅ 56% cite AI as having a positive impact
✅ 77% are achieving operational cost savings (up 15% from last year)
But here’s the game-changer: barriers to entry have collapsed with 75% of organisations reporting setup costs under $5,000 (58% under $1,000), compared to nearly 30% spending over $50,000 just a year ago. This shows how ready-to-use AI products are democratising access.
There are still challenges, especially building trust, improving AI literacy and ensuring inclusive adoption. The report also includes several fascinating case studies that show how AI is transforming productivity, reshaping work and creating new opportunities across New Zealand.
Another new report from the International Monetary Fund highlights how AI regulation in the European Union could reduce potential productivity gains by as much as 30%. It’s a timely reminder of the balance policymakers face between fostering innovation and ensuring responsible AI use.
I’ve shared more thoughts in this LinkedIn post.
Ngā mihi nui,
