Join us at our upcoming monthly Cluster event on 7th August at Connetics where we will hear from two guest speakers.
Alisdair Reid, Engineering Manager at Orion, will discuss innovation at Orion – preparing for and the application of future technologies. Brett O’Donnell, CEO of Webtools will provide an overview of the IoT industry, his background in building an IoT device here in Christchurch including customers and use cases.

OUR SPEAKERS

Brett O’Donnell CEO of Webtools

After graduating from the University of Canterbury in 2001 with Physics and Economics degrees, Brett worked for BP as an IT Project Manager.
In 2007 Brett hired his first developer and began delivering software solutions to the New Zealand Energy sector. In 2014, Webtools was formed and by 2018 employs 16 staff across New Zealand, Australia and the UK.

In 2017, Brett founded Ento and started working on developing a scalable IOT solution for various industries. By early 2018 Ento had 150 devices being trialled across NZ and Australia by companies including Christchurch Airport, NZ Transport Authority, Meridian Energy and CityCare.
Brett lives in Christchurch with his wife and three daughters.

Alisdair Reid, Engineering Manager at Orion NZ Ltd

Alisdair Reid is the Engineering Manager at Orion. He is a Chartered Engineer with 20 years’ experience with the design, construction and commissioning of power systems in New Zealand and in the UK.

Orion delivers electricity to over 200,000 homes and businesses in Christchurch and Central Canterbury. New technologies such as photovoltaic generation, battery storage and electric vehicles have the potential to significantly change customer behaviour with respect to electricity usage. This presentation provides a brief overview of how Orion’s network is well equipped to meet future change, the technologies that we might use to engineer future solutions, and some other initiatives and innovations that we are currently trialling around Canterbury.
