Hello Autumn: Let’s Dive into Serious Work Together

If the first two months of 2024 for Digital Identity NZ are anything to go by, this year is certainly turning out to be every bit as busy as 2023. It is a different kind of busy, with more collaboration and partnership engagement needed to ‘get things done’ in the digital identity domain, against a backdrop of regulation and economic headwinds.
A couple of weeks ago, the year’s first Coffee Chat saw good attendance as did last month’s Air New Zealand and Authsignal sponsored webinar on passkeys. This exclusive member-only event shared how DINZ members, Authsignal and Air New Zealand worked together to deliver a world class implementation of passkeys to secure Air New Zealand’s customers accounts. Speaking of Authsignal, founder and DINZ Executive Council Member Justin Soong wrote this exceptional thought piece on AI published in Forbes last month. And DINZ member SSS – IT Security Specialists received this accolade!
Next week, members will receive a personal email from me seeking expressions of interest, particularly from digital ID service and attribute providers, to participate in an investigative sprint early next month from DINZ member PaymentsNZ’s. The aim is to surface the digital identity-related issues that people encounter in the payments industry, and develop best practice requirements to overcome them as part of PaymentsNZ’s Next Generation Payments programme. If you’re getting the impression that April is the month for digital identity, you’re correct! Tuesday 9 April is World Identity Management Day! While co-founded by the Identity Defined Security Alliance and the National Cybersecurity Alliance in the US in 2021, the day is recognised in many countries globally. In its fourth year, the 2024 Virtual Conference brings together identity and security leaders and practitioners from all over the world to learn and engage.
April is also a favourite time of year to publish research that helps to level-set our own strategies and plans, as DINZ did last year. This Australian research forwarded by a public sector member, would probably show similar results in NZ, as reflected in DINZ member InternetNZ’s insights research. And the EU digital wallet is taking shape as it aims to showcase a robust and interoperable platform for digital identification, authentication and electronic signatures based on common standards across the European Union. We hope to continue our research and additional initiatives for 2024, and we’re continually looking for support in the way of sponsorship from our members.
