It’s great to back after a refreshing two-week break. I’m excited to dive back into an action-packed final few months of the year for Aotearoa’s tech sector. We’ve got some important updates to share with you.

Announcing the Launch of SFIA 9
We’re happy to share the launch of SFIA 9, the latest version of the Skills Framework for the Information Age on October 30 in New Zealand and Australia. SFIA is a globally recognised tool that helps organisations manage and grow digital skills. This latest version brings new features and enhancements designed to meet the changing needs of the digital landscape. Both New Zealand and Australia hold whole-of-country licences for SFIA, emphasising our commitment to addressing the digital skills shortage.
SFIA Week – October 30 to November 1
The main launch will kick off SFIA Week, a series of learning events where SFIA users will share insights on how they’re applying the framework in real-world situations. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn. The week is being organised by a collaboration of regional SFIA users and representatives including Digital Skills Agency and MBIE.
Why SFIA Matters
As digital transformation continues to reshape industries, having a framework to clearly define and develop skills is crucial. SFIA 9 will help organisations in New Zealand equip their workforce with capabilities needed for our future.
Our 2023 Digital Skills Report showed there is still a significant shortfall in experienced talent, particularly in cybersecurity, AI and data analysis.
The report called for urgent action to upskill the current workforce, improve digital education, and attract international talent to close these gaps. It also underscored the role of frameworks like SFIA in helping organisations clearly define, develop, and manage the skills needed to remain competitive.

Our 1st Digital Safety Summit is in 3 Weeks!
Our first Digital Safety Summit | The Wellington Dialogues is just around the corner, taking place on October 31 in Wellington. This topic has been close to my heart since we launched The Code, and I’m eager to hear from experts in digital safety, privacy, and governance as we discuss the critical issues affecting the safety of our digital infrastructure.
