Advocacy, Awards, and Member Survey – November Newsletter

Kia ora,

In September, BlockchainNZ submitted to Parliament’s Finance and Expenditure Committee Inquiry into Banking Competition, addressing the challenges Web3 businesses in New Zealand face in accessing and maintaining essential banking services. This week, BlockchainNZ Chair, Jeremy Muir, presented to the Committee, summarising our submission, and responding to their questions.

We are also preparing a submission to the Reserve Bank of New Zealand – Te Pūtea Matua on a revised access policy for the Exchange Settlement Account System (ESAS), which banks use for payments and settlements. If you’re a BlockchainNZ member interested in these regulatory issues, we’d love to hear your views – please reach out here.

A reminder to members to complete our brief member survey to help shape the future of Blockchain New Zealand. Your feedback will play a key role in helping our Executive Council understand members’ needs, identify what matters most to you, and explore the opportunities and challenges we face as we look to the future. The survey closes on Friday, 29 November.

Earlier this month, we proudly announced the finalists for the 2024 BlockchainNZ Awards! Thank you for your incredible nominations, and congratulations to all our finalists. Now, it’s time to cast your votes! You can find all the details of our award categories, and finalists here, with voting closing on Wednesday, 20 November.

The winners will be revealed at the BlockchainNZ and Web3NZ Awards event on Thursday, 5 December, in Auckland. If you haven’t secured your ticket yet, there’s still time and we can’t wait to celebrate with you!

Ngā mihi,
BlockchainNZ
