Festivities and cyber threats!

Kia ora,

As the year draws to a close, festive celebrations are in full swing! Last week, the new IoT Alliance executive council welcomed Co-Chairs Jenna Whitman and Steven Dirven, and the AI Forum executive council also gathered for Christmas drinks. This week, I’m joining the AgriTechNZ team at their year-end celebration at Parliament before toasting the season with 500 Wellington SaaS folk at their annual SaaSmas Party.

Stay vigilant during the festive season!
The National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) issued two urgent advisories, emphasising the need to choose secure and verifiable technologies amid warnings of mass-hacking  attempts. Adding to the seasonal risks, cyber security experts and police are urging caution around a surge in social media shopping scams. A particularly common trick involves fake requests from well-known courier companies.

Join our national cybersecurity conversation
Looking ahead, I’m keen to hear from the experts at our 11th annual National Cyber Security Summit in March. The lineup promises valuable insights, including Adwin Singh from Inland Revenue sharing their cyber challenges, and cyber sociologist Dr Patrick Scolyer-Gray offering a unique perspective on the human side of security. We hope to see you there!
