Speakers:

Tom Norcliffe is a privacy and information professional with over 20 years experience in the private and public sectors. Starting his career at Reuters in Sydney, on relocating to NZ he joined Archives New Zealand initially as an archivist but ultimately leading the agency’s appraisal function, which included developing the whole of Government Legacy Records Programme, and developing the evaluation and approval processes for both state and private sector entities applying for disposal approvals under sections 17, 18 and 20 of the Public Records Act. From Archives, he moved to the University of Canterbury where – as the Associate Registrar – he was responsible for integrating privacy-by-design into the University’s IT architectures and procurement process, as well as being on the pointy end of managing the University’s privacy and open access policies. Tom has a strong interest in the intersection of privacy obligations, identity management and information design and management, together with effective solutions in protecting all three, and has brought this interest and knowledge to his work at Middleware NZ.
