Empowering the next generation

Kia ora,

It’s an inspiring time for our tech community as ShadowTech25 kicks off across Aotearoa. Over the next two weeks, more than 1,200 secondary school girls will step into the world of tech, experiencing first-hand what a career in our industry looks like.

Despite progress, women currently represent just 29% of New Zealand’s digital IT workforce. The gender gap starts early with women representing only 40% of NCEA technology students and 24% of IT graduates.

Our goal is simple – to inspire more girls to pursue education and careers in tech. As New Zealand’s highest-paid and most in-demand sector, tech depends on a diverse workforce to continue thriving.

Thanks to TechWomen and the incredible support of our sponsors and host organisations, students from over 80 schools will connect with leading employers, participate in interactive workshops, and hear from women shaping the future of tech in New Zealand.

NEXT WEEK: Don’t miss our Digital Trust Hui in Wellington

Just one week left to secure your place at the Digital Trust Hui. Our international keynote, James Monaghan will explore digital identity and sovereignty in the age of AI. Hear insights from the Deputy Government Chief Digital Officer Myles Ward on government digitisation and Deputy Privacy Commissioner Liz MacPherson on the development of Aotearoa’s Biometrics Code of Practice.
