This morning, I had the pleasure of attending the sell-out Techweek opening event in Auckland. The 7am start didn’t deter over 400 people from celebrating the beginning of Techweek – Good for the World. The event brought together leaders in CleanTech and CreativeTech, two rapidly growing sectors that New Zealand is becoming known for. The official launch rolled straight into the Auckland Economic Tripartite 2019 Innovation Showcase. With international delegations visiting from Los Angeles and Guangzhou, it was great to see delegates soaking up the best in New Zealand tech.
With over 500 events, in more than 30 towns and cities around New Zealand, it has been difficult to decide where to go. This evening, I am looking forward to opening the Vector Harbour Bridge Lights display which has been created by students from Clendon Park School and Manuwera High School. This is the very first time students have been given control of the bridge lights!
On Tuesday, I will be in Wellington and involved in Techweek TV. Thanks to our partners Callaghan Innovation, Techweek TV is hosting over 60 hours of live streamed interviews, panel discussions and the latest tech. Check out the schedule and save your favourites.
On Tuesday evening, the Future of Space event at Victoria University of Wellington will be fascinating. New Zealand is at the front of the pack, thanks to leaders like Peter Beck and his team, plus the great work by the New Zealand Government in recognising the opportunity.
Mid-week, I return to Auckland for a string of events across the city, before heading to Tauranga on Thursday for the launch of the PlantTech Research Institute followed by DevExpo at Base Station.
I end Techweek19 in Auckland, with over 1000 fellow guests at the Hi-Tech Awards. This is the ideal occasion to celebrate the announcement of our best tech firms for the year.
I wish I could clone myself and attend even more events throughout New Zealand! We should all be proud of New Zealand and our fellow Kiwis for leaning into the exciting future that tech is bringing us.
