Currently, there is quite a lot happening in the world of Government regarding to tech. Tomorrow morning the revised 2019 New Zealand Cyber Security Strategy is launched by Minister Faafoi. After a budget commitment of $2 million it will be interesting to see how it will be spent. In October, NZTech is hosting the New Zealand Cyber Security Summit where we will be hearing more detail form both Government and private sector on evolving cyber risks and approaches.
Tomorrow, the Hon David Parker, Minister for Economic Development, is launching the Government publication, From the Knowledge Wave to the Digital Age and should be announcing a new direction in economic development strategy. Agritech is expected to be a focus for economic development, as will other digital sectors. The details will be important, but nevertheless, it is a very positive sign to see an increasing focus in the opportunities that tech growth can bring for New Zealand.
Also on Tuesday, I am attending the Digital Skills Forum as we work together with IT Professionals and NZRise, plus MBIE, Ministry of Education, TEC and the DIA to further improve the flow of digital skills into the New Zealand population.
The NZTech AGM is coming up in a few weeks and it’s a good time for everyone to get together, so I hope you can make it. Following our AGM, we host The Great Ageism Debate in Tech. We are pitting the generations against each other and it’s the Millennials versus Generation X. We will test tech’s cult of youth against time honoured workplace wisdom. Are young people simply smarter or does experience matter? Join us and help decide who the real disruptors and true leaders are.
