Auckland is hosting the 2016 New Zealand VEX Robotics National Championship on 27th and 28th February 2016 at the Vodafone Events Centre.
Teams from across NZ will be competing to represent New Zealand at the VEX World Robotics Championships in Kentucky in April, hoping to add to New Zealand’s record of 7 straight world titles. The event is free and open to the public.
The National Championships is the culmination of the VEX Robotics high schools programme that is run in more than 100 schools in New Zealand.
The VEX Robotics programme and championship event showcase the application of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) subjects in schools, helping to inspire and develop the next generation of scientific and engineering talent.
The skills competitors learn will be invaluable for their careers, which in turn will be invaluable for Auckland and New Zealand.
This year’s event incorporates the 2016 STEM expo between 10 and 16.30 on 27 February. The expo provides a great opportunity for educators and the general public to see what the leaders in STEM education are delivering. With a vast range of robots competing, and rockets and submarines on show across the weekend, this is the perfect opportunity for individuals and schools to learn about the practical application of STEM subjects and how to get involved.
The STEM expo 2016 is hosted by NZTech and supported by Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED), The Vodafone Events Centre, The Four Winds Foundation, The Raye Freedman Trust, The Kiwibots and AURA.
