NZTech Inform – be part of Techweek2020
Last week, Techweek2020 opened for event submissions. If you haven’t heard of Techweek, it’s an annual festival, run for a week in May. Each year, we encourage events and activities to run through the country to help raise the awareness of the importance of technology for New Zealand. During Techweek19 there were 564 events in 38 towns across New Zealand, attended by over 46,000 people.
One purpose of Techweek is to inspire people to consider tech as a career. Last year, 260 schools ran Techweek events with people from tech firms engaging with over 3,000 students. Across the country there were 92 events specifically for women and 70 events run by Maori for Maori to help increase awareness of available opportunities.
Another purpose of Techweek is to help tech firms grow and export. Last year, Techweek attracted over 50 investors who chose from 55 investment events where over 60 pitches for funding were delivered. Techweek is marketed globally and delegations now arrive from countries in Asia and Europe and New Zealand’s tech reputation grows.
I strongly encourage you to think about how you can get involved. Check out the Techweek website, consider an event and submit it.
In other news, following months of collaboration between AgriTechNZ, the Minisitry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) and consultation meetings throughout New Zealand, the Industry Transformation Plan for Agritech in New Zealand was released. This is the Government’s strategy to grow agritech as a major contributor to our economy. Learn more at free workshops on 3 March in Auckland, 9 March in Hamilton and 10 March in Lincoln.
Meanwhile, NZTech and MBIE are continuing the development of a similar plan for the digital technology sector. As soon as we have the dates locked in for the next round of input I will let you know.
