NZTech Inform – Digital skills for our digital future

Following another four day week, it’s hard to believe so much is already underway for this year.

In case you missed it, we recently launched our research report, Digital Skills Aotearoa – Digital Skills for our Digital Future.  The research found system wide challenges requiring urgent national attention – a lack of coordinated effort, dramatic skills challenges driving a heavy reliance on immigration and under investment in developing the existing workforce.

We are working the recommendations into the Industry Transformation Plan (ITP) and discussions are underway with the Ministry of Education (MoE) and Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) on activating some of the suggestions, for example, digital apprenticeships.

In a couple of weeks, we host our annual New Zealand Cyber Security Summit in Wellington. COVID-19 has dramatically increased digital uptake in businesses and alongside this has been an exponential growth in cyber crime. This event, attracting more than 200 senior tech leaders and Government officials is focused on helping New Zealand organisations build cyber resilience.

Speaking of cyber resilience, today is Global Safer Internet Day; check out what Netsafe and others have underway and think about what you can do to help others experience a safer internet.  Consider online safety, mental health and cybersecurity.  A safe internet is critical for a prosperous New Zealand underpinned by technology.
