NZTech Update – Celebrating tech and innovation in 2017

Hi Readers

Next May, with the support of numerous passionate people from a variety of tech communities, government agencies and cities throughout New Zealand, NZTech will deliver Techweek’17. Techweek is a week-long celebration of tech and innovation. It is a national festival of hundreds of independently run events curated as a cohesive experience. Right now at techweek.co.nz we are accepting expressions of interest for any event, community or organisation that might like to host an activity during Techweek’17.

Ultimately, Techweek is about showcasing New Zealand’s best tech to international investors and building a global reputation as a high-tech nation. Techweek will also be used to inspire kiwis and build the capability of our businesses. This year, piloted in Auckland, Techweek hosted 55 events attracting over 10,000 delegates and 30 international investors. Techweek’17 will be bigger and better, running in every city from May 6-14. Events are focused in three streams; Inspire, Build Capability and Showcase.

To inspire we will see regional activities that engage local communities and kids in tech. For example, local Code Clubs and council activity. NZTech is currently in discussions with the Ministry of Education to have Techweek’17 running in every school. We are also working on national TV coverage and live streaming of events.

To build capability we are working with regional economic development agencies and Callaghan Innovation to stimulate local communities to put on events, meet-ups and pitch practice. We are also aligning current events to better leverage speakers, venues and audiences.

To showcase Techweek’17 will schedule events to attract serious international investors. Working with NZTE, we are inviting international media and investors to showcase events culminating in the annual Hi-Tech Awards.

I have no doubt that Techweek’17 will be successful because there are so many passionate people thinking about NZ Inc. However, we still need your support! Every extra bit of helps, whether it is an event idea, speaker, venue or a sponsorship opportunity, just let us know. All expressions of interest welcome.

All the best
Graeme Muller
