NZTech Update – Have your say on R&D

Kia Ora,

This week is your last opportunity to have your say on the proposed R&D tax credits bill with submissions closing on 14 December. Your feedback is needed so please don’t be one of those who complain about it in hindsight. Instead, just click the link and write a couple of lines about what is important for your business. If you have an interest in a software business or a high growth pre-profit business, the proposed bill may not be ideal. So, take a moment to help the Government understand how your business works and how to better define software research and development.

My week seems to be full of board meetings. I am sharing insights with several early stage tech associations, including Digital Identity NZ, BlockchainNZ and FoodTechNZ. It is excellent to see the collaboration of the many tech associations within the Tech Alliance. Recently, I was reading research on industry maturity and learnt that the development of a well resourced, member funded representative organisation for a sector is the first sign of maturity.  Mature organisations represent a substantial portion of the population and promote cooperation within the group and between groups. I guess that means NZTech has left adolescence and reached maturity having formed a growing group that already represents 21 tech associations. Together, we represent over 800 members throughout New Zealand who employ more than 10% of the workforce.

So that was 2018, what a year!  I am going to take a break from the weekly updates as we head into the Christmas holidays. Enjoy the festive season and don’t forget that we all work hard work so we can enjoy time off with family and friends.

Merry Christmas and catch you again late January.
