NZTech Update – Kathmandu tech talks and celebrating women on #IWD2017

Hi Readers

Thank you for all your great suggestions about how to fit in my daily run while in transit through Singapore. I opted for a slow jog to the departure gate and according to my GPS running app it was 1.8km. The next day, I got my run in around the vibrant streets of Kathmandu which was devastated by a 7.8 earthquake in 2015, killing almost 10,000 people and leaving 3.5 million homeless. Like Christchurch and Kaikoura, the resilience of this city is clearly visible, but unlike New Zealand, people continue to live and work in crumbling buildings.

The World Information Technology and Services Alliance meeting in Kathmandu is highlighting that every country has similar issues, including skills shortages and encouraging women into tech We appear to be leading in this space and it’s great to see that this week’s NZTech Women event on International Women’s Day, has been so popular we have had to find a larger venue!

Last week’s Government & Technology Summit was a success with news coverage about the progress being made to digitalise government services and over 100 senior government executives joining the discussion about using cloud and data to deliver better public services.

An update as promised; in collaboration with NZTE, NZ Story and MIBE, workshops on the development of a New Zealand “technology story” are scheduled for March 21 (Wellington), March 23 (Auckland) and March 28 (Christchurch). Contact me if you would like to attend and share your input.

It’s almost time for me to get back on a plane and head home.

Have a great week
All the best

Graeme
