An afternoon of Diversity in STEM

If you’re an advocate for equity in STEM, or a senior leader looking at ways to advance the diversity agenda of your organisation, gain new insights at the Diversity in STEM afternoon on 4 September at Aotea Centre, Auckland.

Chaired by Diversity Works CEO Maretha Smit, the Diversity in STEM session includes talks from leaders in different aspects of diversity, and a panel discussion to discuss the ways organisations and individuals can improve diversity and equity in STEM (as well as the activities that might not work so well).

Martyn Loukes BEM, a UK-based change consultant and LGBT campaigner, will talk about mainstreaming LGBT+, including the internationally lauded Transport for London project to raise public awareness on London’s transport system; Genevieve Doube, Pou Whakawhanake at Beca, will speak about Māori  inclusion and indigenous engagement; Denise Carter-Bennett from Datacom will give insight into neurodiversity at work; and representatives from the New Zealand Defence Force will share insights into increasing gender diversity in a traditionally male sector.

The Diversity in STEM afternoon is part of the ICWES19 (the 19th International Conference of Women Engineers and Scientists) event, hosted by AWIS and Engineering New Zealand. Register ($195) at https://www.icwes19.com/attend#waystoengage
