NZSA November Networking Dinner with Alex Mercer, Xero’s Head of Global Communications

This month we welcome an unsung star of the tech industry, Alex Mercer. One of New Zealand’s most experienced global communications specialists. Alex will talk about her history at Microsoft and how she rose to be Microsoft’s Corporate Communications Director, running worldwide PR, managing citizenship strategy and working on executive communications.

Her topic is the importance of communications and the role communications plays in building a successful tech business.

After Microsoft, Alex worked as communications strategist at Bill Gates’ Seattle-based think tank, where she managed the launch of the Giving Pledge, a campaign led by Bill and Melinda Gates and Warren Buffett to establish new norms around wealth and giving in the USA.

Now Alex works at Xero, as Head of Global Communications and runs with a team of former journos, writers, social media experts and PR professionals based in New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, USA and the UK. Together Alex and the team hustle every day across time zones to tell the story of small businesses to the world. Come along and hear Alex’s fascinating story.
