May Event – Emma Woods’ journey to ICT Success

Emma Woods (@CodingCockatoo) has just returned from Seattle, where among many things, she spoke at Seattle University on reorienting her career and her experiences in the New Zealand ICT industry. She will now bring that talk back home to us.

It has been more of a ‘squiggly line’ than a smooth ride for Emma to get to where she is now. After being top of her honors class at university, she quickly found herself employed as a temporary receptionist with a degree she calls “somewhat irrelevant to our current world”. She dabbled in becoming a burlesque dancer and on the side, taught herself to code. In just 12 months she went from having no knowledge of coding, to speaking at Microsoft’s TechEd conference. Emma is currently loving working as a developer at Provoke Solutions and is a Microsoft Virtual Evangelist for Cloud Development.

Come along and hear Emma’s perspective and tips on getting into the industry which rocketed her towards a rewarding career with a few less squiggles.

This event is free of charge for NZTech members.
