The New Zealand crypto landscape

It’s been another busy month here at BlockchainNZ. First, I’d like to thank all of those who attended our event last month and a big thank you to the team at Lane Neave for being amazing hosts. I spent the majority of this month following up on coffee dates with many of you who attended – picking everyones brains about the current ecosystem and helping everyone connect the dots to keep building our community. If you’re keen to catch up, my emails are always open. 

One of the big tasks our team undertook this month was submitting our response to The Reserve Bank of New Zealand on their Future of Money – Private Innovation issues paper. The issues paper covered off their interests in stablecoins; looking at the opportunities and risks posed by innovation in private money, the RBNZ goal to be the steward of money, as well as regulatory responses necessary for private innovation. As we believe in transparency, consensus and building a common voice for the blockchain community, we thought it was important to cover what would be included in our response and gain our community’s feedback. You may have seen the BCNZ Pod last month, where Jeff Nijsse interviewed Paul Sailsbury from Everlasting and founding member of BlockchainNZ and BlockchainLabs. Everlasting has recently put out a survey to capture necessary information on the New Zealand crypto landscape. Given that almost 1 in 10 NZ adults have purchased some crypto, they are looking to collect New Zealand based insights around how people are securing their crypto assets. If you haven’t yet, we encourage you all to participate in the survey here. 

If you haven’t registered yet, we’ve got a few things planned for the annual Techweek which will be hosted from May 13-20. This year, we’ve also included the Tomorrow Expo, a three day expo hosted in Auckland that showcases all the innovative technology coming out of New Zealand.
