NZTech was asked to provide a representative on the Steering Committee for the NZQA review of ICT qualifications sitting at levels 2-5 on the NZQA framework. These are the pre-tertiary qualifications that guide the programmes offered by schools and polytechnics. The Steering Committee and working parties reviewing the qualifications consisted of a mix of educators from schools and polytechnics, and industry representatives, supported by NZQA staff.
Following the review, the Steering Committee made several recommendations to update the qualifications, particular updating what is considered “new and future technologies and methodologies”, emphasising the growing important of data, and looking at what the new government requirements around acknowledging Te Tiriti and diversity in educational programmes means for ICT education. NZQA will review these recommendations and publish the reviewed ICT qualifications framework in early 2020.
NZTech was represented by Diane Edwards, who has a background in Education but now works at Ports of Auckland, where she formerly oversaw the technology function and now heads up their Futures and innovation area.
